Language and World Business

The Language and World Business Program (LWB) is a concentration within the curriculum of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tennessee that allows students to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree by combining a foreign language major with an international business concentration. Below is an outline of the program:
Majors:
B.A. in French & Francophone Studies, Hispanic Studies, German, Italian, or Russian Studies.
B.A. in LWB with Chinese, Japanese or Portuguese.
Both of which are combined with one of the following business concentrations:
- International Business Administration
- International Retail Merchandising
- International Agricultural Economics
Requirements for the B.A. degree within the LWB program also include a practical experience/internship component:
- 490-international or local internship, or
- 491-foreign study

Businesses and graduate schools value the excellent communication skills, international experience, and practical training of the LWB graduate. Graduates of this prestigious program are well-rounded individuals who proceed into active professional life or go on to pursue a graduate degree in international business or foreign language.
LWB Academic Requirements
To be accepted into the program, students must do the following:
- Complete an application for admission: LWB Application Form [75KB, PDF]
- Complete the MFLL 199 prerequisite course offered once per year
To remain in the LWB program, students must do the following:
- Maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA in the courses specifically required by the College of Arts and Sciences; C grade or better in all program related courses.
- Earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA in language courses
- Successfully earn 3 hours of credit for 490 or 491
Language and World Business Students "Making Language Learning Good Business" around the Globe

- Amy Jones, a junior in French and Francophone Studies and LWB is studying in Paris, France during the Spring of 2012.
- Catherine Cheatwood and Chelsea Gray in Costa Rica during the summer of 2011.
- Jonathon Simpson, a senior in LWB and Chinese enjoys a meal with friends while studying abroad in Taiwan.
- Hadil Senno studied at the University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain in the fall of 2010.
