The Fourteenth (14th) Annual SAEOPP / UTK McNair National Scholars Research Conference offers a venue for the presentation of scholarly research in competition with peers. McNair Scholars are invited to submit a proposal, which should consist of:

  • Submission of completed form (see Proposal Registration)

  • A 100 word or less abstract of the research that will be published in the conference program should be "proofread" and "typed" in the text box provided on the Proposal Registration Form. Abstract must be submitted as follows:

    • Done in Microsoft Word 2003 (10.0) or higher
    • In 12 pt. Times New Roman font

    Oral Presentations

Each McNair student giving an oral presentation will be allotted 15 minutes including 5 minutes for questions and answers. If the presentation is to be in a computerized format, please have a backup plan should there be an instrumental failure. We are limited to 136 oral presentations.

Oral presentations will be judged on:

    • Quality of the research
    • Presentation delivery and command of subject matter
    • Effectiveness of the effort

Presentations are judged within their respective disciplines. Presenters must designate their research area. Oral presentations will be randomly assigned to either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.

The Conference planning committee will provide the following equipment in each research presentation room:

    • LCD projector
    • Laptop
    • Overhead Projector

    Poster Presentations

Poster presentations will occur on Friday evening. Poster presenters will need to allot time before the opening session to set up. Presentations will be made on a standard, tri-fold presentation board (side panels measuring 1' x 3'; center panel measuring 2' x 3'). Presenters will be assigned tables randomly.

    Posters will be judged on:

    • Comprehensiveness
    • Quality of research
    • Visual display

    Addendum

    • Overhead projectors will be placed in all rooms.

    • Conference planners cannot guarantee performance of audio-visual equipment. Presenters are advised to anticipate equipment failure, and be prepared to adjust the presentation accordingly. (Have transparencies or slides as a back up)

    • Presenters are encouraged to provide written handouts.

Deadline for Submission is June 6, 2008

Early submission is suggested due to limited numbers. Confirmation of proposal acceptance will be e-mailed or mailed to each presenter.
