Highlights from the 13th Annual SAEOPP/UTK MCNAIR National
Scholars Research Conference
The 13th Annual SAEOPP/UTK McNair National Scholars Research Conference was held on June 28 through July 1, 2007 at
the Hilton Hotel Downtown, and the University of Tennessee Conference Center in Knoxville, TN. The conference featured
121 oral presentations and 21 poser presentations by McNair Scholars from 31 institutions. Mr. Carl McNair, Director of
the Ronald McNair Foundation, and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson served as keynote speakers, while extensive greetings and comments
were delivered by Dr. Robert Holub, Provost for the University of Tennessee, Dr. Susan Martin, Associate Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Carolyn Hague, Dean of the Graduate School from The University of Tennessee.
A highlight of the conference was the Graduate School Forum facilitated by Mr. George Robbins, Associate Dean of the
Graduate School at Rennessler Polytechnical Institute, and the Graduate School Fair which featured representatives from
21 graduate schools.
There were a number of networking opportunities which included a reception on Thursday, a Friday evening reception with
a Caribbean Steel Band, and a Saturday evening game and dance night social on the campus of The University of Tennessee.
The conference culminated on Sunday with remarks from President Camille Zeigler, who facilitated the awarding of cash
awards, gifts, and plaques to 30 scholars in six different discipline categories.
