FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPONENT L&WB students take the following courses in their respective language majors:
Chinese (30 hrs): 231, 232, 331, 332;plus any 3 electives (9 hrs) from the following: Art 386, Asian Studies 102, History 362, 363, 364, Political Science 454, Religious Studies/Philosophy 376, 379 (or other course approved by Asian Studies Advisor); and one (3 hrs) of 490 or 491.
French (33 hrs): 333, 345, 351, 352, 400, 422, 432, 440, 445; plus any (3 hrs) 400+-level literature course, and one of 490 or 491.
German (30 hrs): 301, 302, 311, 312, 363, 485; plus any 3 approved electives (9 hrs) at 323 level or higher; and one (3 hrs) of 490 or 491.
Italian (27 hrs): 314, 341, 342, 401; plus any 4 approved electives (12 hrs) at 400 level or higher; and one of 490 or 491.
Japanese (30 hrs): 251, 252, 351, 352; plus any 3 electives (9 hrs) from the following: Asian Studies 101, 102, Asian Languages 313, 314, Religious Studies 283, Art 386, History 365; and one of 490 or 491.
Portuguese (33 hrs): 301, 302, 309, 315, 316, 409, 431; either History 360 or 361; plus any approved Latin American Studies elective (3 hrs); and one of 490 or 491.
Russian (30 hrs): 301, 302, 311, 312, 401, 402, 451, 452;plus any approved elective (3 hrs) from the following: 221, 222, 226, 321, 322, 326, 371, 372 or other courses at 400+ level; and one of 490 or 491.
Spanish (33 hrs): 323, 330, 331, 345, 346; plus at least 3 hrs of 300-level literature survey from SP 332, 333, or SP 334 plus any 4 electives (12 hrs) at least 2 of which above the 300-level (includes 300 and 400 level courses) and 2 at the 400-level (but not SP 425, SP 426, SP 429, or SP 494) ; and one of 490 or 491.
INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS Students choosing this minor should also consult with an advisor in the College of Agricultural Sciences. PRACTICAL TRAINING AND FOREIGN EXPERIENCE
L&WB students, through the language courses numbered L490 Internship,
L491 Foreign Study, or L493 Independent Study, fulfill a practical (work,
cultural exploration) experience at home or abroad prior to graduating
with the Bachelor of Arts degree in Language and World Business. Work opportunities
at home and abroad are sought out by the students with assistance from
the L&WB faculty and other University staff. In order to get credit
for any work experience, the student must complete an Internship Agreement
and obtain approval from the program or internship directors prior to starting
the work. Work is supervised and evaluated by a responsible employee
of the business or organization where the student is placed, and a report
on the experience must be submitted by the student to the director to complete
the requirements for credit. MINIMUM ENTRY AND PROGRESSION STANDARDS Admission into the program and progression towards the BA degree in L&WB are based on academic merit, a demonstrated sense of purpose, and ability to maintain the following Grade Point Averages (GPA) : A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 in all courses. A GPA of at least 3.0 in all language courses counting towards the degree. |
