A love Story

Love United Gospel Choir was founded at the University of Tennessee in 1977. The choir was formally known as the John 23rd Singers based out of St. John Baptist Church in Alcoa, TN.

The leadership of the choir began to notice the love and unity that was present amongst its members and changed the name to Love United Gospel Choir. In the early years of the choir, there was a very dynamic population.

Students came from all races, ethnic backgrounds and paths in life for the sole purpose of ministering through song. Besides singing, Love United Gospel Choir and its members continue to serve the UT campus and Knoxville community. Love United Gospel Choir has received many awards in recognition of their hard work including the Chancellors Organization award and Chancellors Citation for outstanding Service and Leadership in 1992.

Love United Gospel Choir has been blessed with the opportunity to travel bi-annually on tours, which the last tour landed the choir on the Today Show while visiting New York City. The choir’s most recent achievements include becoming a Charter Choir for the National Association of Collegiate Gospel Choirs.
