The Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville was founded in 1966 by the State Board of Education. The Knoxville school was operated by the Knoxville City School System under contract with the Tennessee Board of Education from 1966 to 1984, when the operation assumed by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
During its 30-year history, the Tennnessee Technology Center at Knoxville has served thousands of area citizens by providing job training and placement.
It is the philosophy of the Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville that each citizen should have the privilege and opportunity to reach his or her maximum potential. Individualized instruction provides each student with the highest quality training possible in the occupational area of his or her choice.
The school adheres to the philosophy that the development of specific skills and knowledge in an individual is not sufficient; desirable worker characteristics are emphasized to instill character development, good work habits, reliability, honesty, and respect for authority that are neccessary for a productive society.
The Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville fulfills this purpose by providing instructional programs to train or retrain persons for employment. Programs are designed to enhance skills and knowledge of workers who are presently employed.

Age -- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Truck Driver Training applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Education -- Applicants for Truck Driver Training and Cosmetology must have at least a 10th grade education. Applicants for all Health Occupations must have a high school or GED diploma. There are no educational prerequisites for other areas of training.
Testing -- Applicants must take the admissions test required for their program. Health Occupations applicants must pass the Califormia Achievement Test.
The Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville participates in the Federal Pell Grant Program, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program, the Federal Work-Study Program and the Tennessee Student Assistance Award Program. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") will determine the applicant's eligibility for all programs. TTCK does not participate in any student loan program.
Students at TTCK may also be sponsored by the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA), State Vocational Rehabilitation, Trade Readjustment Act (TRA), the TOPS program, and Veterns Benefits. Please see a TTCK counselor for more information.
TTCK graduates wishing to continue their education may qualify to have Technology Center credit applied toward an Associate Degree from a Tennessee community college. Please check with a Technology Center counselor for more information.
Job Placement for graduates receives top priority at TTCK. While placement cannot be guaranteed, the entire staff is committed to assisting in job placement.
The acquisition of knowledge or skills by any student depends on the student's desire to learn and his or her application of appropriate study techniques to any course or program. As a result, the Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville does not warrant or represent that anyone who completes a course or program of study will necessarily acquire any specific knowledge or skills, or will be able to successfully pass or complete any specific examinations for any course, license, or degree.
The Tennessee Technology Center at Knoxville maintains a full-time counseling center for trainees, prospective trainees, and graduates. Services include vocational guidance, progress and attendance counseling, financial aid counseling, and counseling for personal and/or school-related problems.
The Student Services Department also maintains the waiting list, assists in placement, and keeps complete, confidential records on all students.
