Student Opinion Survey
Week 4
1. If our homework assignments correlated
with what we are learning in class that would be helpful. I no longer attend lecture
after I went straight home on Thursday evening and attempted the HW only to
find myself clueless. |
2. Ask more questions from students to
ensure we are learning |
3. I'm finding that the homework doesn't always
match up to what we learned in class, making it really difficult to try and
teach it to myself. |
4. More example problems |
5. The lectures AGAIN have almost nothing
to do with material that will be on the tests or the homework. We have yet to
go through as a class and work problems. We have to ask the TA or figure it
out ourselves. This is not helping us to learn it the right way. |
6. I understood all the material |
7. Nothing, I have been learning just fine. |
8. Perhaps if I had sat in the front like I
usually do. It would have made it easier to pay more attention and focus. |
9. Maybe a group activity in class. |
10. Nothing would have helped me learn more.
I learned all that I could with the resources provided. |
11. The extra help from our TA and
instructor is extremely helpful in this course. This class can be confusing
and being able to contact the instructor or TA at mostly anytime is really
great. |
12. I would have learned more if I had
retained more of the information given. |
13. I like the way the class is going. |
14. None |
15. Nothing really. |
16. I think that more real life application
problems would be very beneficial. |
17. I got confused on the project and went
to office hours but there were so many people I didn't get to speak with the TA.
Also it was a lot to get ready for the exam, use CourseCompass, and do the
project all around the same time.
Hopefully, the next time the projects could be due on Thursdays |
18. Phil has been a tremendous help. |
19. I soaked up every bit of information this
week except for the correlation coefficient. However, with the new calculator
posted on Blackboard, solving these problems is really not that difficult. |
20. Don't have much to say at this moment. |
21. Better organization |
22. if Dr. Leon would teach |
23. Everything was good in class |
24. More examples in class done on the board |
25. Nothing, everything was great. |
26. None. I love the class! |
27. I was extremely satisfied with class
this week. |
28. May be you can slow down a little bit.
Thanks. |
29. Nothing. I learned fairly well from the
lecture presented |
30. Sometimes it takes a long time for Dr.
Leon to start lecture which is very distracting and makes it difficult to
"get into" the material. |
31. This past week went well. I was able to understand
what was being taught |
32. Nothing really, the classes went well. |
33. I like the weekly exams. It allows you to stay on top of the
material without trying to learn to much at once |
34. Good |
35. n/a |
36. Less rambling and more straight forward
class then class would not be as long |
37. There was a lot of stuff happening last
week. There was a project due, a large amount of homework and an exam all in
one day. I was a little overwhelmed. |
38. The two most helpful components of this course
for me are Phil's exam reviews before class on Tuesday’s class and the course
compass homework. The class blog is also pretty helpful as well. |
39. I would have learned better if the
project, the exam, and homework were not all due on the same day. |
40. More detailed descriptions on how to
work the problems |
41. Phil’s help sessions on Tuesdays help
the most. He's really good at explaining things. |
42. Homework, a test and a project not being
on the same day. |
43. Nothing. You have provided everything to
allow a student to succeed. |
44. LECTURE, COURSRCOMPASS |
45. Going over material more slowly |
46. Nothing....I appreciate the willingness
of the teachers to help, and I like the structure of the class. |
47. The technology just gets in the way of
the substance of the course. I feel
like the professor’s over usage of technological elements is taking too much
away from the real material. |
48. Well the news about Michael Jackson last
Thursday was a major distraction for me. |
49. I don't find that spending class time going
over the surveys is especially helpful. Last Tuesday we went over how to make
the course better for the first hour and a half, but what I think would make
the course better is spending class time on the lecture material and getting
feedback via the surveys. |
50. More cowbell |
51. Nothing you could do, really. If my life was less hectic and I had
studied more--that would have helped!
:) |
52. When Phil wrote us the email on how to
do last Tuesday's homework (dealing with going from r-squared to r), the directions
were a little bit unclear and I did it wrong on the homework as a result.
Even the website on UTK on how to graph it didn't help at all. So maybe be a
little bit clearer on JMP tutorials. |
53. It’s going well. More math examples maybe. |
54. I don’t know. I thought that I did
better on the exam than my grade showed |
55. I think more explaining and writing
examples. |
56. Going to the extra help session before
class this past week. |
57. The weekly exams and help sessions are greatly
improving the way I learn and remembering what we have learned in the past
lectures. |
58. The review sessions are the best! |
