Student Opinion Surveys
Week 3
1. Nothing, I fully understood the material |
2. Good to go |
3. Nothing really. The TA did a great job
at his review session. I learned almost everything I needed for the week with
CourseCompass. |
4. Lectures are not helpful! The teacher is
trying very hard but all he talks about is graphs of the class surveys. This
is not helping us to learn what we will need for the tests. If he does not
actually teach us in the lecture no one will come. All he talks about is
things that do not relate to the text. Very difficult to listen to. The TA
blog and help session are the only thing that saves this class even though
the teacher tries very hard and is extremely nice. |
5. n/a |
6. More demonstrations of how to use JMP. |
7. If you would leave the lecture notes on
the overhead for longer so that I can write them down...I'm a kinesthetic
learner so actually doing something like writing helps me to pay attention
and learn. |
8. Better explanations of the mathematical
variables and formulas. I still do not understand how to find the standard
deviation, I understand how to apply the formula but where does the value for
n come from? Not explained well |
9. Everything went real well |
10. n/a |
11. More lightsaber action |
12. The 30 minute reviews before the test
are really helpful but it would be good to have a review sheet maybe or a
review session a little ahead of time instead of right before the test so we
could have a little more time to study the material that we should have
known. |
13. I think the classes are fine. |
14. More examples |
15. Perhaps if you actually taught something
instead of just fiddling around with your great technology? The technology
sucks! Focus on teaching and get over the tech! |
16. I think it went overall very well. I was happy that you decided to leave the
test at the start of class Tuesday. I
think had we moved it to the end it would have been harder. It would be harder to focus on learning the
material for that day with a test looming over our head at the end of the
class |
17. During the exam it was very loud and
hard to concentrate. |
18. I don’t really have any suggestions |
19. The class change this week was really
distracting, but I know that was just a special situation. |
20. More discussion over the exams questions
and how we should attack them. |
21. n/a |
22. If the homework was easier to get to and
do |
23. Would have liked a better explanation of
what needs to be done for the project that's due |
24. More clarification about the specifics
of the project |
25. I think that possibly going over the CourseCompass
problems that students have at the beginning of class would be helpful for
many. The most helpful part of the class for me by far is the help sessions
with Phil before class on Tuesdays. |
26. I have a hard time focusing for extended
periods of time, and it seems like the class periods could easily be condensed
to a shorter amount of time without losing any of the fun or lecture
material. |
27. A better explanation of the JMP
program. Also, more instruction from
Phil. |
28. n/a |
29. Clearer explanations of key concepts at
the end of class. An overview of the main points. |
30. I did not see Phil's pre-test session
held on Tuesday before the exam as a choice "for what helped me learn
last week" survey question. That
was a great review session, a little cramped for time, but still great. |
31. N/A |
32. The material is starting to get a lot more
in depth. Just taking a tad bit more time to furthermore discuss. |
33. I just like CourseCompass, and the
effort the teacher and the TA are doing. Other than that I could not really
ask for more. class is going well |
34. I don't like that so much of the class
relies on technology. I wish there was more reliance on in-class materials
and the textbook and that we did not have to spend hours out of class on the
computer. |
35. Being a bit slow and using repetition S
MUCH MORE, to avoid anything that w'd embarrass the TA. |
36. More explanation about the upcoming
project. |
37. More visual aids |
38. I'm not sure what would have helped, I
was satisfied with how the classes went. |
39. Nothing I can think of. |
40. The technology, use of examples in
class, humor, and instructor/TA availability has helped me tremendously in
understanding this class called Statistics. Thanks for all your help. |
41. I find that each week my learning
experience is only expanded upon. The class
seems to be getting better and better. |
42. More help interpreting graphs |
43. Better explanations of some of the
problems that we were learning about |
44. Everything you guys are doing is
helpful, although the JMP program is a little complicated. |
45. If I would stop drinking the night
before. |
46. I like things examples that have real
life application. |
47. I missed class on Thursday due to the
flu, so I probably would have learned a bit more without the flu. I would
also like the 68-95-99.7 rule explained in more detail. |
48. I think I understood everything we
learned. It was easy and accessible to go back and look at the things I was
unsure of. |
49. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for
that this week. It changes depending upon how much I work on understanding
the concepts on my own time. |
50. If more examples were done |
51. Nothing.
I believed I learned the material put forth by you. |
52. I hated the building we were in. I hope
we never have class there again. I also feel we shouldn't have a break in the
last 20 minutes of class. |
53. Nothing Extra. I thought the material
presented was straight forward and needed no further explanation. |
54. LECTURE BLOG, LECTURE, COURSECOMPASS. |
55. I still don’t understand the whole
z-score thing but it’s cool class that is great |
56. More explanation of Normal Distributions
and other things from the homework. I struggled some with the homework this
weekend. |
57. Ask more questions from students. |
58. I didn't see anything on the JMP demos
that explained how to create spline lines or how to connect the means of box
plots. |
59. I ENJOYED MOST EVERYTHING. NOT A TREKKIE THOUGH SO MUCH HUMOR GOES
OVER MY HEAD. |
