Week 2

What would have helped you learn more - or want to learn more - this past week?

1. The technology, though overwhelming, can be useful once someone filters through it. Being a summer course and I am personally only taking 7 hrs. this is not a big deal. However if I was taking 15 hrs. I wouldn't have time or want to filter through all the different bits of info. The tech is great, helpful, informative, and helps us utilize and learn new technologies but some of it should be cut down, focus on what really works for the classes as a whole. Other than this, just highlight more of what is needed to be known, i.e., we covered IQR and standard deviations in class, when I got to the homework I had to review it again to remember how it was done, this is somewhat normal obviously, but I didn't feel it was covered well in class because I had no recollection of the material really. Also, the blogs are cool, keep that up.

2. I wish class time was used more efficiently. I feel like in the span of a 2 hour class, we really don't cover that much actual material. I also think that you shouldn't ask students how you're doing all the time! You're doing fine and we are entertained.

4. More JMP examples of how to use the program

5. Class attendance should not be forced upon students. Many of us can succeed in a class without being required to sit through hours of unnecessary lecture.

7. Nothing the things available to us online are plenty for me to learn the material.

9. I think being shown examples on JMP would've helped me learn more this past week because it would've been easier to visual things.

11. Maybe meeting at Einstein's would have helped me learn a little more this past week but CourseCompass and the lectures are very helpful.

21. You both do a very good job of teaching. I like the summaries at the end of each chapter during lecture. If we could furthermore discuss this for a little bit more time may be helpful.

30. I truly appreciate the various ways of learning and the commitment of the professor and TA to being available for one-on-one help when needed. Thank you!!

31. If a teacher could ask more questions to verify if students understand the subjects better, that would be great.

33. Giving us the definitions so we don't have to spend $75 to buy the book. There is no other use for the book because everything is presented so well in the lectures so it would be nice if we could get the definitions in the notes also.

38. CourseCompass has definitely helped, and I enjoy being able to complete homework and quizzes online. Also, the capability of getting an almost instant response from either you or the TA is convenient and easing!

39. I would really like to have some time in class that Phil does some more teaching. Nothing against you Dr. Leon but a second person always helps make things clear.

40. I had a great little piece typed in here but it cut me off at 1024 characters, not cool. I will try and deliver in an email, thank you for an opportunity to hear my voice.

49. Forcing us to stay for classes. It is too tempting with the class being online to skip when we do not have an exam.

52. If I could bring my laptop class and look at the lecture notes and live blog during lecture.

53. Instead of relating everything to Star Trek, try something students are more familiar with.

54. Maybe break up the class with a break in the middle instead of at the end.

55. If we work out problems in class more often, I feel that my learning capabilities would increase.

56. The lectures and CourseCompass both helped the most.

57. I think everything this past week was done nicely. I am upset about the exams being at the end of class because now I'm worried I won't be able to pay attention during class because I'll be thinking about the exam. but I understand why it was moved

58. I feel as if I have learned everything I possibly could! All the resources are great!
