Student Opinion Surveys

How do you use the available resources to learn?

1.      I use the study sessions and my  book as well as the CourseCompass

2.      I use the book as it provides all the information we are taught in class. I also use the class blog for the exams and CourseCompass.

3.      Blackboard, CourseCompass, reading the book, 30-min review sessions, and the class blog contribute most to my learning.

4.      I learn everything I need to know for this class from CourseCompass and the class blog. Everything else is superfluous.

5.      Study the blog for review of the quiz. Use CourseCompass as a tool to learn what type of questions I need to understand more thoroughly

6.      I like the CourseCompass for the most part. It is pretty much the only thing I use to study for the tests

7.      I use the CourseCompass a lot.  Sometimes the lectures. I use the class blog, TA's help when needed. Also the 30 minutes before the class help session really help

8.      The blog is amazing and I love Phil's help sessions

9.      The resources available have been very helpful in better preparing me for the weekly exams. The most helpful resource is CourseCompass (for practicing problems), PowerPoint (for examples of how to work problems and definitions), and the class blog (for an overview of what to look for on tests).

10.   I use mostly the online sources as well as the study sessions to learn the course

11.   CourseCompass is by the best resource available. Phil also is very helpful, especially during his pre-quiz study sessions. The notes provided are vague and are not of any use. The classroom setting, it just seems to bounce around. It is clear Dr. Leon knows what is going on but that information needs to be broken down into smaller, simpler steps. Those steps should be provided in our notes, or the time should be taken so we can get them into our notes. My math 125 teacher was the best teacher I've had at UTK because she broker every problem down as simple as she could, explained the small details and didn't assume, at any point in the semester, that we just had an assumed knowledge. Never skips steps or fast forwarded.

12.   I use CourseCompass a lot, because it has examples and the “Help Me Solve This” buttons.  I also use the class blog to see what exactly I should read in the text and study the most.  I also won't miss the Tuesday help sessions with Phil: that's invaluable.

13.   I actively try to get to the study sessions before the exams early so I can get comfortable and be prepared for any information that I might have missed. It might help if there were more practice problems given during the week.

14.   I study the class blog and attend help sessions.

15.   Well!  I use CourseCompass to do my homework and learn from that. Then, I go to the class blog after every class and study and review once it's posted.

16.   I attend every review session because I find them very helpful and the CourseCompass homework is also very helpful because it shows me step-by-step examples which helps me comprehend the material

17.   I do the assigned homework through CourseCompass and then study the blog.  On top of attending class, the study sessions help tremendously.

18.   I use the class blog. I especially liked the animated solutions to the blog question this past week.  I also like the animated problem-solution examples online from our textbook. Seeing example problems worked is the best way that I learn.

19.   You have given us so many options to choose from and I find it very helpful:  from texting, to online lectures, to the blog.  This class gives us no reason not to do well. I used the class blog, the lectures and the pre-exam help sessions to get a solid grasp for what we've learned in the lectures.

20.   I mostly use CourseCompass and the class blog to study

21.   I use CourseCompass to see what the material is used for, then the class blog and lecture postings on Blackboard  for an overview of the material

22.   I go to Phil's help sessions and use the blog to help guide my studying

23.   I use Blackboard to print off the notes to help me study for the exams and do the homework. I also attend the TA's study session before the weekly exams and have found them very helpful

24.   I use the blog and notes together to understand the lecture better. I use CourseCompass to practice what I know and let it show me how to work it if I get confused. I use the JMP demonstrations to help me understand how to use the program.

25.   I like the technology and find it very helpful. I go to most of the lectures and I find the class blogs very helpful. I like the lecture PowerPoint notes. I like to CourseCompass assignments and I like the review sessions. All of these are very helpful, and the recordings are helpful when I am not in class.

26.   I skim through the chapters that our lectures cover and I go to the exam review before class. I also read the class blog and study the Course Compass questions.

27.   CourseCompass has contributed a lot to my learning.  Also being able to look at the PowerPoints from each individual chapter and lecture. Project activities have helped with building and reading graphs

28.   The class blog and the notes are my most useful tool. Thanks.

29.   I use CourseCompass to learn all of the basic concepts in class and the blog as a study guide for the exams

30.   The only resources that I use are CourseCompass and the textbook.  Those making learning the easiest for me.

31.   As with any class, I "use" the available resources to prepare for the tests each week and also for the projects

32.   I learn the material while answering the homework problems on CourseCompass. If the concepts are not straightforward, I reference the book or the chapter PowerPoints. I read the blog before the exam and attend Phil's review session.

33.   I use CourseCompass, my textbook, the class blog, and notes from class to learn the material.  These are the most helpful things that I use to prepare for the exams.

34.   I use the class blog to prepare for tests

35.   I use the blog and CourseCompass the most to study for tests every week. I think that along with Phil’s study session are the most valuable parts of class

36.   I use CourseCompass, textbooks and class blog to learn and to understand the terms of statistics

37.   I use the PowerPoints, the homework examples, the corresponding textbook pages that go with the homework examples, and, especially, the class blog to help me learn.

38.   I use almost everything you offer to learn the material and I feel that I have a great advantage with the resources you have provided

39.   I really like CourseCompass and the availability of the professor and TA

40.   I use CourseCompass to practice what I have learned.  I use the book to improve upon what I learn in the lecture and to clarify anything I don't understand.  I use lecture to learn the basics of the material.  I use the class blog to practice and refresh what I learn in the lectures.

41.   I use mainly the textbook, online homework, class blog, and pre-test tutoring session to learn.  I find these resources sufficient.

42.   I review the class notes/slides for the class. I read the blog after every class and compare it with my notes. I watch the online class recordings. I really enjoy the help sessions on Tuesdays, and the extra help sessions at Einstein. The CourseCompass homework help is also helpful

43.   I use CourseCompass and the book incredibly often. Phil's review sessions are also stellar

44.   I go to the help sessions before class. They are great and always help me prepare for the exams.

45.   I use the class blog to study for the test. And the online homework to learn the material

46.   The resources I use the absolute most are the class notes, CourseCompass, the book and the pre-exam reviews. These four tools have helped me so much and I really understand things.

47.   The main resource I use is the class blog. It is a nice concise report of the information we need to know, which makes studying more efficient. When I have missed class and been confused by the class blog, I have used the lecture recordings to help me. CourseCompass and the weekly exams make sure that I stay on top of the material.

48.   I use the online lectures, posted class notes, and Phil's review sessions to my full advantage.  If these notes and Phil were not available, there would be no way I would be passing this class.

49.   I mainly just go to lectures and read the class blog.

50.   I read the book and blog, go to the review sessions and go to class.

51.   I use the blogs to help study for  the weekly exams

52.   The resources I use the most are the class blog, Blackboard, CourseCompass, the textbook, and lectures. Between these things the class is extremely easy and doable. The class blog is an especially helpful resource as it enables me to focus my studies on relevant material. Course compass is also an especially good resource as it allows me to work through not only homework problems, but as many similar exercises as I'd like plus sample tests, etc. I do not use the Ning network or the Google group; I simply have not found this class to be challenging enough to warrant student collaboration. However, other students may feel different. Personally I found it quite annoying to have my email box flooded with sixty new emails a day from those two resources, it made sifting though relevant emails and junk mail quite difficult. You were a good teacher and your use of humor kept the class from being boring. However, don't be afraid to lecture a whole class without using humor since, after all, that is not why we are there for.

53.   CourseCompass is extremely helpful, as is the class blog.  Sometimes, though, it's difficult to connect the concepts learned in class with the concepts reviewed on the homework.  Because homework problems are rarely mentioned in the classroom setting, it can feel disjointed.

54.   I enjoy using the class blog and CourseCompass as learning tools.
