Do you have some advice that you think will help me
make the class better for my students in the fall?
|
1. Stick to the basics. You're ability to make the class fun is a
plus but it feels like complete overuse of the items presented to the student
and simply just bores the student.
Also, please stop with the stuff that doesn't matter. Jokes, masks, stuff that actually inhibits
other people's learning. For me, and
for others, we stop listening when we see a mask because we can no longer
take you seriously. |

2. No comment |
|
3. More lightsaber action |
|
4. None |
|
5. Tell them right off the bat that they do
not HAVE to attend lecture if they don't need it to learn the material. Don't
record your lectures. If someone wants to see the lecture, they should show
up to class. Be confident in your knowledge and don't worry so much about
what we think of you or if we understand. If someone doesn't understand a
concept during lecture, they can raise their hand and ask a question or ask
you after the lecture. People do not like being called out individually in
class if their hand is not raised for ANY reason, and there is no need to ask
every 5 minutes if we understand. Just pause every now and then and ask,
"Questions?" Be your fun, goofy self but be confident about it. Use
the physical board instead of working problems on the computer. |
|
6. Give problems during class that will
help us follow along |
|
7. Be more aware of the jokes you make and
your power to focus attention (positively or negatively) on one student; be
cautious singling students out. Be
courteous of your student's time.
Learn to tell a student "Yes, you're right!" even though
they may not have said the answer the exact way you would have. Technology has the power to aid in teaching
and making course material easier to understand. However, in this course, technology does
create a struggle to actively learn by taking attention away from the
material and, instead, putting more emphasis on the actual technology being
used to impart said material. 8. Just keep making yourself available..it
really makes a difference. 9. Nope 10. More guest speakers and in class
activities. 11. Go over more problems in class, but
honestly the class was well done! 12. You do pretty well overall. Give them
study guides. Be a little more specific about what is going to be on the
exams every week. Also, I do not like the weekly exams. Prefer only three or
four. 13. I would say that having a week every
single week puts a lot of stress on students and the stress will be much
worse during the actual school year. 14. For the fall, make the exams on Monday 15. I have no advice 16. n/a 17. None 18. Keep
allowing the students to learn efficiently with use of the blog and help
sessions. 19. Please work
out examples in the class. This will greatly help them. They need to see
examples. that will be somewhat similar to the ones on the exams. Continue to
post the PowerPoints notes, but I do I
do not think that it is necessary for you to record the lectures or have the
Ning network. The old exams are good and the class blog was extremely helpful
in knowing what to study. The answers provided for the examples on the blog
were very helpful too. 20. I have a hard time understanding
you...perhaps practice speaking clearly and don't talk about the surveys for
an hour cause NOBODY CARES! 21. I think that you should allow the
students to drop one of the exams. It
can really hurt you're grade if you're having a bad day and do badly on one
of them. 22. Do not wear masks 23. I enjoyed the class thoroughly. Keep up the good work. 24. Keep the lectures concise and
straightforward. Sometimes I get a little confused from the lecture and I
suggest working more examples such as problems that I might see in the
homework 25. I think you need to keep taking weekly
exams. It is both challenging and rewarding! 26. You could make it an online class since
ya'll are so technologically savvy. That would eliminate the lack of lecture
attendance too. 27. I think you should use the idea you had
for the MWF class, exams on Monday, New material on Wednesday, and help
sessions on Friday. 28. No 29. Give more examples and more explaining 30. You do not want to take stats, but your
major requires it. Lucky for you, Dr. Leon is the teacher and you might actually
pass. 31. Allow more time for question and answer
sessions for clarification. 32. I just think you need to work more
problems and do more examples instead of just verbally explaining the material.
Many people are like me and need to actually see a problem worked before it
makes sense to them. 33. n/a 34. I just suggest slowing down your
teaching and making sure the class understands each step of a problem and
where the numbers are coming from. Make it more visual by working out
problems in front of the class on a more regular basis. 35. No, I think you did a really good job
teaching the course and I think everyone appreciated your compassion for
helping us anytime we needed it and getting the material across. 36. Pick one network to use (Google, Ning, Blackboard)
students don’t like having to keep up with multiple sources 37. Everything went well 38. I thought the class was very well set up
and very easy to learn. 39. Provide main objectives for lecture and
use fewer abstract examples to help solidify and accentuate your points. 40. Keep up humor. Be available for them. 41. I say, go with your gut feeling! You're
a good professor, you know the material and you make it fun. You also care
about your students, personally; so whatever you choose to do, it will be the
right thing-I'm confident of that! :) 42. Just keep giving students all the opportunities
to learn the material. 43. Be more clear in your explanations, you
go on to many tangents 44. Cut back on types of internet
communities, technology, etc. Be straighter to the point when lecturing. 45. I really like this class and the format
for tests. This class is fairly easy to follow and to catch up. 46. Maybe if you short pop quizzes every
once in a while it will give students more of an incentive to make it to
class each time. 47. Work more examples in class and give students
a chance to interact with you and each other.
Class participation definitely needs to be a part of your class in the
future to increase attendance and keep students involved. 48. Keep the Star Wars and Star Trek to a
minimal. It is fun, but we are here to learn. |
