Video Pilot Project

With assistance by the Innovative Technologies Center

Pilot Project Leader: Klaus van den Berg, Ph.D.

The video project is designed to serve as a teaching and research resource for students in the Department of Theatre at the University of Tennessee. Currently, students enrolled in the theatre history classes have the opportunity to access digitized versions of theatrical performances, documentaries, selected clips, and selected still shots from performances for the purposes of studying performance elements of theatre history. The Innovative Technologies Center at the University of Tennessee has provided the necessary resources for accessing and using digitized versions of performances

The project has three purposes: first, to provide students with an archive of remarkable historical performances, often not available commercially, as a basis for historical understanding of performance practices; second, to give students a practical tool for examining the practices and theoretical assumptions of historical performances; and third, to provide students a means for researching performance history and creating research reports with new technologies.

This is a long-range project which will be updated on a regular basis. Copyright specialists of the University of Tennessee library and the Innovative Technology Center are providing assistance in obtaining copyright permission from the producers of the materials made available here.
