Philanthropy
is a very important aspect of Kappa
Kappa Gamma. We participate in many
of the philanthropies on campus and
take part in many different community
service projects throughout the year.
Our local philanthropy is the March
of Dimes and we also do work with our
national philanthropy, RIF, Reading
is Fundamental.
Local Philanthropy: March of
Dimes
The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization
whose mission it is to improve the health
of babies by preventing birth defects,
premature birth, and infant mortality.
To raise money and awareness about the
March of Dimes, our chapter holds Kappa-Lympics,
a field day event. In 2005 we were recognized
by the March of Dimes with the National
Collegiate Award for having raised the
most money by a single collegiate organization
in the country. We also host a designer
jean sale to raise more money for March
of Dimes. Walk America, which is the
national fundraising event for March
of Dimes, is held every spring on UT’s
campus, and Kappas have always have
a great time participating in this event.
National Philanthropy: RIF
RIF is Kappa Kappa Gamma’s national
philanthropy. Reading is Fundamental
works to literate the nation by helping
young people discover the joy of reading.
We promote our national philanthropy
by traveling to local schools a few
times a week and reading to children.
Philanthropy Event: Kappa-Lympics
Kappa-Lympics is a day of fun field
games, a cookout, and an opportunity
to raise money for a great cause while
having fun and competing against your
fellow greeks. Every sorority and fraternity
can enter teams to participate, and
each team with be coached by two Kappas.
But, there is only one sorority and
one fraternity that take home the gold
in Kappa-Lympics each year. The event
takes place on Fuji Island in the springtime,
and all the proceeds of the event go
to our Philanthropy, March of Dimes.
This event has been such a huge success
that Kappa Gamma Nationals awarded “Best
Philanthropy Event” to our Epsilon
Lambda chapter.
More Participation
Kappas not only participate in events
to raise money and awareness for our
local and national philanthropies, we
also participate in other sororities’
and fraternities’ events. We participate
in Pi Kappa Alpha’s Pike’s
Peak, Sigma Chi’s Derby Days,
Sigma Nu’s Fowl Fest, and even
won Lambda Chi’s Watermelon Bust
this year. We also participate in Kappa
Delta’s War of the Wings, Delta
Gamma’s Anchor Splash, Phi Mu’s
Chili for Children, and many more.
