Judaic Studies Goes to China

Gilya SchmidtThe University of Tennessee and Shanghai University established a partnership in 2006.  At the time, the university wanted to bring the Humanities Departments into the alliance as well.  Religious Studies was one of the departments to meet with a delegation from Shanghai University.  From it, resulted Dr. Schmidt's lecture tour to Shanghai in 2007 which led to contacts with Chinese colleagues from universities in Naujing and Kaifeng.

In 2008, Dr. Schmidt returned to China to lecture in Shanghai, Kaifeng, and Kunning. Three of the Shanghai University grad students visited Knoxville in fall 2008 to conduct research for thie masters theses.
