About

According to their web site, the Young People's Press (YPP) is a diverse news service that “empowers a large network of youth and young adult writers to have a voice in the mainstream media and a space at the table of public opinion.” YPP accepts columns, feature stories, and first-person narratives from authors aged 14-24. Visit the YPP home page or browse the YPP archives to learn more.

Unlike some publications, YPP editors encourage back-and-forth communication with prospective authors. The editors prefer to do so via email. You can pitch an idea to them, and they will work with you to develop a story. The editors will also provide feedback to you if you send them a rough draft or unfinished piece of writing.

Submission guidelines

When you submit a piece of writing to Young People's Press (YPP), it is subject to editing and becomes property of YPP, which retains non-exclusive rights.

The YPP staff recommends you read the work posted at their web site to get a feel for the preferred style before submitting. Visit the YPP archives and the writing tips page to learn more.

The preferred mode of communication at YPP is email. In the case of regular mail submissions, you must provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope with international reply coupons if you want your submission returned to you. As a precaution, you should get in the habit of saving multiple copies of your final draft before sending it anywhere!

Read the complete YPP submission guidelines.
