Definition of opinion writing

Why do good writers enjoy expressing their opinions? Many famous opinion writers are passionate or expert on a specific topic – politics, music, sports – and they want to share their ideas in ways that will persuade their audience to see the world differently. (In fact, some have argued the aim of all good writing is to alter the reader's point of view, thereby making all good writing persuasive in nature.)

A good opinion writer, intent on persuading his or her audience, does more than express his or her ideas, however, he or she carefully looks for details and responsibly gathers facts before writing.
