James L. Fitzgerald

Welcome to the home page of James L. Fitzgerald, Professor of Sanskrit and Indian Religions and Philosophy and Interim Head of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

This page serves as a source of information for some of my classes and for information on the Mahabharata and my ongoing work translating and interpreting it.

Volume 7 of the Chicago translation of the Mahabharata, containing Book Eleven and the first one hundred sixty-seven chapters of Book Twelve (comprising the Instructions on the Laws for Kings and the Instructions on the Laws in Times of Distress) is now available from the publisher, the University of Chicago Press (http://www.press.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/hfs.cgi/00/15838.ctl), and major booksellers.
