I incorporate theory with experiments to elucidate causes and consequences of shifts in the mycorrhizal symbiosis. I am especially curious about the factors determining carbon acquisition, potential soil organic matter degradation facilitated by ectomycorrhizae, and how the symbiosis might be altered by a changing climate.

I study the many roles that mycorrhizae play in terrestrial carbon cycling.
