SURVIVAL DESIGN STATEMENT
-
Survival Design is a collective group of artists who create interventionist social art through nomadic sculptural forms and lightweight tensile structures. We design and build hybrid objects inspired by recreational, industrial, and safety equipment. Each project responds to particular site conditions. Survival Design works in urban and rural spaces to temporarily alter the landscape in order to question human relationships with the natural world.
Our production as artists includes kinetic sculpture, performance, and installation. We temporarily transform places to create a confounding spectacle and to subvert routine patterns and social norms. Designed to invite audience participation, our projects challenge viewers to engage in a civic dialogue about individual, community, and place.
