Conversations, Tuesday November 13, 2007 ft. Photojournalist Orlando DeGuzman

The International House would like to invite you to join us for our Conversations About World Affairs Series featuring Mr. Orlando De Guzman, a journalist and independent filmmaker based in Indonesia. Mr. De Guzman is the founder of Archipelago Productions, a television documentary company specializing in Asian current affairs and cultural programs. His lecture will focus on the transition to democracy in the Philippines and the persistent problem of impunity in Southeast Asia.

Orlando De Guzman has reported and produced television documentaries for PBS FRONTLINE/World and the British Broadcasting Corporation. Prior to his television work, De Guzman was an independent radio producer who filed ground-breaking stories for Public Radio International’s “The World” program and the BBC. De Guzman’s stories are regularly told from remote regions in Asia and often feature the views and aspirations of ordinary people undergoing extraordinary change. He has covered the Moro rebellion in the southern Philippines, the growing insurgence in Iraq in 2003, and the hidden HIV/AIDS epidemic in Burma. De Guzman is originally from the Philippines and is fluent in Filipino and Bahasa Indonesia. In 2006, he was a Blakemore Fellow for Advanced Bahasa Indonesia.
