Conversations About World Affairs ft. Mr. Melchior Mataki

The International House would like to invite you to join us for our Final Conversations About World Affairs program for this Fall semester featuring Mr. Melchior Mataki, Fellow at the Pacific Centre' for Environment and Sustainable Development at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva, Fiji. His talk will focus on The Effects of Global Warming on the Pacific Islands.

Mr. Mataki is involved in climate change impacts and adaptation research as well as implementation of adaptation measures in rural communities. He is also in charge of special training programs offered by the Centre' on Climate Change and Extreme Events. Mr. Mataki is frequently involved in policy discussions at the regional level and in many Pacific Island countries on the topic of "Climate Change." Additionally, Mr. Mataki is involved in waste management projects, where the emphasis is on practical measurements and practices to better manage waste. In Mr. Mataki's words, "The linkage between climate change and waste management lies in the proper management of waste that could lead to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and meet other environmental and health objectives." For the past three years, Mr. Mataki has been based in the Solomon Islands on the campus of USP, where he teaches undergraduate chemistry and mathematics to students in a distance education program. Mr. Mataki holds a Masters degree in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry from USP.
