Tennessee 11, South Carolina 7
October 31, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols and South Carolina Gamecocks wrapped up the weekend series Saturday afternoon, in a pre-game of the night's football game between the two schools. The Ice Vols went on to win a high-scoring affair 11-7, improving to 5-2-1 on the season.
Steve Kavjian got the scoring started 47 seconds in with his first goal of the season, putting the Ice Vols up 1-0. Three minutes later, Andrew Swint scored for South Carolina to tie the game up at 1.
However, it lasted less than a minute as Daniel Yoder scored for Tennessee, followed by goals from Taylor Yoakley and Jack Bradshaw.
In the second period, South Carolina responded, tying the game at 4 nine minutes in with a goal from Mike Shiels. Before the end of the period, Donald Williams and Robert Banks had goals for Tennessee to one goal from South Carolina's Patrick Flood.
Tennessee took a one-goal lead into the third, where they grabbed control of the game. Kevin Jones scored 50 seconds into the period. After Swint answered with his second goal of the game for SC, Evan Marroni scored the eventual game winner.
Banks, Williams, and Jones all added their second goals of the game in the last eight minutes to give goalie Ben Deepan and the Ice Vols a four-goal cushion.
Deepan picked up his second win of the season, improving to 2-0-1.
The real story of the night, however, was Tennessee's lack of production with the 5-on-3 advantage. Tennessee was 3-for-4 on the 5-on-4 advantage. But, Tennessee failed three separate times to score on the 5-on-3 advantage.
Tennessee 8, South Carolina 1
October 30, 2009 - On Friday, Tennessee got back to its winning ways, jumping out to a two-goal lead after one period of play. Taylor Yoakley got things started for the Ice Vols with a power-play goal less than four minutes into the game.
Robert Banks, netted the other goal of the first period as well as the only goal in period two to put Tennessee up 3-0 going into the final frame.
In the third period, the Tennessee offense broke open with five goals. Scott Andrews got things started with a goal 1:15 into the third period. Isreal Ceja scored his first of two goals on the night a minute late to put UT up 5-0.
South Carolina was able to get one shot by Joe Gauvin, who stopped 31 of 32 shots on the evening. Matt Kramer scored South Carolina's lone goal.
However, 30 seconds later Jack Bradshaw scored on the powerplay to give the momentum right back to Tennessee. About halfway through the period, Ceja scored on the powerplay for his second goal of the game.
Kevin Jones rounded out the scoring on the night, with his team-leading sixth power-play goal of the season. Jones currently sits fourth (205) on Tennessee's all-time scoring list, closing in on second and third place. Jon Benner is next on the list at 213 and Preston Dixon sits in second with 215.
On the night, Tennessee was 4-for-6 with the man advantage while South Carolina went 0-for-7. The Ice Vols outshot South Carolina 44-32.

October 29, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols were on television this morning on Volunteer TV. October 28, 2009 – Robbie Banks, the leading scorer for the Ice Vols this season, will be on 90.3 The Rock's Rock Solid Sports Show with Will Rabb tonight. Banks will be talking about the season thus far and previewing this weekend's big matchups with South Carolina as well as the Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Florida 8, Tennessee 6
October 25, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols failed to keep up with the Pavlinec brothers and Nick Cortolillo of Florida Saturday night, falling to the Gators in the second of the two games this weekend.
Cortolillo started the game off with a goal 25 seconds in to put the Gators up. Robert Banks answered with a goal for UT 93 seconds later.
However, the tie lasted only 36 seconds as Chris Pavlinec put Florida back up. Matt Stankowicz added another goal for Florida 67 seconds after that.
Kevin Jones added an unassisted goal for UT and along with a goal from Donald Williams, Tennessee only trailed 4-3 going into the first intermission. Jon Pavlinec added his first goal of the game for Florida on the powerplay in between the goals from Williams and Jones.
In the second period, Florida took a two goal lead early. However, Jones and Jack Bradshaw added goals to tie the game at 5 going into the final period.
In the third period, it was essentially all Gators, as they out shot Tennessee 21-12. Cortolillo put Florida up 6-5 with his second goal of the night.
After Chris Williams tied the game with a goal inside nine minutes to go, Jon Pavlinec stepped up and took the game for Florida. 1:53 after the game was tied at 6, Jon Pavlinec added his second goal of the night.
2:27 after that, he pulled out the hat trick with his second powerplay goal of the game, giving Florida an 8-6 lead and the win.
Tennessee 5, Florida 4
October 24, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols needed to rally in the third period Friday night inorder to avoid an upset at the hands of Florida. The Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and never trailed until Tennessee took a 5-4 lead with 11:58 to go in the game.
Robert Banks scored his second goal of the game for UT to put them ahead in what ended up being the game winner. Banks has all three game-winning goals for Tennessee this season.
Isreal Ceja tied the game minutes earlier on a quick wrist shot from the right side.
Nick Cortolillo and Chris Pavlinec got the scoring started, putting Florida up 2-0 in the first 15 minutes of play.
Harry Cadmus picked up his first goal of the season late in the first period to cut the deficit to 2-1 before going into the intermission.
Scott Schilson re-gave Florida the two-goal lead in the second period before Tennessee started to rally.
Banks scored his first goal of the game while the Ice Vols were on the penalty kill. Jack Bradshaw scored 2:43 later in the second period to tie the game at 3, only to allow Florida to take the lead 57 seconds later with a goal from Jon Pavlinec.
Joe Gauvin stopped 45 shots, including several late Florida chances to preserve his second win of the season. Casey Ferris stopped 51 shots in the losing effort for Florida.
The Gators were 0 for 6 on the powerplay while Tennessee was 2 for 8. The teams combined for 18 penalties in the game.
Ice Vols Jump 4 Spots In Rankings
October 21, 2009 – Tennessee leap frogs Alabama for the top team in Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference in the newest American College Hockey Rankings by MyHockeyRankings.com. With a 7-5 victory over Georgia Saturday night, the Ice Vols jump from 10th to 6th in the rankings this week, surpassing Alabama who fell to 8th.
Ice Vols 7, Georgia 5
October 18, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols trailed 5-3 with less than 10 minutes to go in the third period before scoring four unanswered goals including a hat-trick goal on the power-play from birthday boy Kevin Jones.
Jones scored the opening goal of the game, to help UT to a 2-0 lead after the first period. He also had the only goal of the second period for the Ice Vols, who gave up four goals in the middle frame.
Three of the goals scored by the Bulldogs were on the powerplay as Tennessee spent 9:20 on the penalty kill in the second period alone.
After Georgia scored with 10:32 remaining in the third period to take a 5-3 lead, Robert Banks answered with his first of two goals, including the game winner on the powerplay with 2:19 left.
In between the two goals by Banks, Jones tied the game at 5. Scott Andrews added his second goal of the night to seal the victory with an empty-net goal with 0:16 remaining.

October 12, 2009 – The Tennessee Ice Vols can now be found on the Nashville Predators website under a new section emphasizing collegiate hockey throughout the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Ice Vols 7, Georgia Tech 6 (SO)
October 11, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols needed to go to a shootout for the second straight game in order to find a winner. This time, it was the Vols who skated away with the much-needed win.
After both teams scored on their first attempts and failed on their second attempts in the shootout, Georgia Tech missed its attempt in the third round leaving the door open for Tennessee. Robert Banks didn't waste any time, skating in quickly and putting the puck off the left post and into the net behind goalie CJ Layer.
Banks started the scoring off on the night with a goal 5:24 into the game. Scott Andrews and Donald Williams had big nights, scoring their first goals of the season in the first period, giving Tennessee an early 4-2 lead.
After three straight goals by Georgia Tech in the third to take a 6-5 lead, Isreal Ceja tied the game up with four minutes to go in the game.
Davenport 9, Ice Vols 8 (SO)
October 3, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols needed a rally to get themselves back into contention late in the game, before losing in a shootout.
With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, the Ice Vols trailed Davenport 7-4. Kevin Jones brought Tennessee to within one with his second and third goals of the night coming at 9:27 and 4:55 remaining in the third period. Jones finished the night with three goals and an assist.
16 seconds later, the Ice Vols tied the game with Robert Banks third goal of the night. Banks then added another goal with 3:04 remaining to give Tennessee the lead.
Banks was a crucial part of the Ice Vols offense all night, making a career night for the transfer in only his second game with Tennessee. Banks led the team with four goals as well as recording an assist on the Ice Vols other four goals.
The Vols lead lasted 30 seconds as Davenport's Ben Duthler tied the game with his second goal of the night. After a scoreless overtime, the game turned to a shootout.
Both teams failed to convert of their first three chances, pushing the game to extras. Mike Stedman put a goal past Ben Deepan to give Davenport the advantage in the fourth round. Scott Andrews failed to match Davenport's goal, as Davenport goalie Ryan Barnett stopped all four shootout attempts.
Tennessee scored first in the game, when Kevin Jones put another power-play goal in the net. The Panthers added three goals before the end of the first. The Ice Vols tied the game at 4 before giving up three goals at the end of the second and beginning of the third period.
Tennessee had several chances to put up goals, with 10 power-play opportunities. The Ice Vols converted on three chances, but also gave up three short-handed goals to Davenport.
The loss drops Tennessee to 0-1-1 on the season. Davenport leaves Knoxville with a 1-1 record. Tennessee will host Georgia Tech next Saturday. The game is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. at the IceArium.
Forida Gulf Coast 7, Davenport 4
October 2, 2009 - Teams that are located 26 hours apart from one another played their second game in as many years against each other in a game hosted by the Ice Vols at the IceArium. For the second time, Florida Gulf Coast came away with the win.
However, the Panthers made a game out of it late. The Eagles led 6-1 midway through the second period before Davenport brought the game to 6-4 with 10 minutes to go.
Florida Gulf Coast leaves Knoxville with two big wins over competitive programs and is on the fast track to another big season. Davenport will look to rebound Saturday night against the Ice Vols in the final of three games hosted at the IceArium this weekend.
Forida Gulf Coast 8, Tennessee 3
October 1, 2009 - Tonight, the Tennessee Ice Vols opened up the 2009-2010 season with a huge matchup against the defending ACHA South Region champions and National Champion runner-up Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Florida Gulf Coast showed why they were such a dominant team last season with 8 of 10 top scores returning from last season, defeating Tennessee 8-3.
The Eagles jumped into the lead early and often through the first period, taking advantage of several scoring opportunities and loose rebounds in front of the net. Four of the six first period goals were off of rebounds.
Tennessee managed to provide some offense, scoring three straight goals in the second period and controlling the tempo for much of the remainder of the game.
Kevin Jones picked up where he left off last season with a nice wrist shot going top shelf over FGCU goalie Jordan Hume on the powerplay.
Minutes later, talented transfer Robert Banks made his first big bang with the Ice Vols, picking up a short-handed goal.
