Tennessee 6, Gerogia 3

November 13, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols started off their second straight weekend in Atlanta with a win, rebounding from two losses last weekend.

The Ice Vols defeated Georgia 6-3 in Duluth. After a scoreless first period, the Ice Vols took the lead 5:11 into the second period off a goal from Tennessee's active point leader Kevin Jones, who was held pointless last weekend in two games for the first time in over a year.

With 2:45 left in the period, Dustin Doyle scored his first goal of the year for Tennessee, starting a goal frenzy. Less than a minute late, Lee Bosma put Georgia on the score sheet with an unassisted tally.

Rob Goldsmith answered for Tennessee 35 seconds later only to be matched once again by Bosma for Georgia with 27 seconds remaining in the period.

Bosma scored late in the third for Georgia completing his hat trick, but it was no match as the Ice Vols added goals from Jack Bradshaw, Robert Banks, and Donald Williams to complete the sweep of Georgia for the regular season.

Ben Deepan stopped 21 of 24 shots on the night to pick up his third win of the season.

Tennessee 9, Georgia Tech 7

November 14, 2009 - The Tennessee Ice Vols completed the weekend and regular season sweep over Georgia teams with a 9-7 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday night in Kennesaw.

The game proved to be a struggle for Tennessee with the rise of the Ice Vols' active points leader to a career night. Kevin Jones moved into second place on the all-time scoring list with 4 goals and 3 assists on a night that saw his line mates Robert Banks and Jack Bradshaw handed game misconducts.

Jones was the fire behind the offense that brought Tennessee from a four-goal deficit. Kevin set up freshman Robert Banks for the Vols first goal of the night in the second period.

Throughout the first 2 periods, Georgia Tech goalie Maxx Lucas frustrated Vols scorers, stopping 30 of 31 shots.

Down 5 to 1, Jones opened the 3rd period with an even strength goal at 18:49. Early in the third period, now down by 3 goals and facing a 9 minute penalty kill, (2 minutes of it 5-on-3) after the ejection of Tennessee's leading scorer Banks, the night really became the Kevin Jones show.

At 17:05, killing 5 on 3, Jones sent fellow senior Rob Goldsmith in on a breakaway to make the score 5-3.

With Jones on the bench, Tech responded with a power play goal to make it 6-3.  16 seconds later, still killing off the 9 minutes, Kevin answered the Tech goal with his second goal, a shorthanded bullet at 13:24.

Tech scored again on the long penalty kill at 12:51, making it 7-4.

Defenseman Rob Goldsmith scored his second goal of the period at 8:56, bringing Tennessee back to 7-5. Jones then set up Isreal Ceja's first of two goals. Less than 2 minutes later, Ceja struck again, tying the score at 7.

At 3:49, Jones took a pass from Goldsmith, muscled his way into the slot and beat Lucas between the pads to give Tennessee the lead, 8-7. To cap off his 4 goal, 3 assist night, Kevin scored the empty netter to seal the amazing comeback.

On top of all this, Kevin's 5 goal, 3 assist weekend moved him from the 4th to 2nd with 217 points, on the All-Time Scoring list in Tennessee's 44 year history.
