| Craig Bates |
2003 |
Former player Craig Bates took the reigns of the Tennessee Hockey Program in 1998 and was their coach through the College Hockey south years. The players Bates coached helped create the foundation of the dominant teams of the early 2000’s. Craig is still very active in the hockey club, and served as Color Analyst on the Ice Vols radio broadcasts for the 2002-03 season. Craig currently resides in Knoxville and works for the Knoxville News-Sentinel, as well as co-hosting his own sports talk radio show. |
| Jeff Beck |
2005 |
One of the greatest goaltenders to ever mind the net for Tennessee, the Goaltender of the Year Award is named for Kingston, Ontario’s Jeff Beck. Jeff came to UT in 1980 and helped lead the Ice Vols to three consecutive SCHA Championship games and the 1983 regular season title. Among the records Jeff Holds are best win percentage, best save percentage, and most career wins. Jeff was a three-time SCHA All-Star and was named MVP of the SCHA/NHL Pro-Am game in 1982 which pitted the SCHA’s best against NHL veterans. |
| Preston Dixon |
2003 |
Preston Dixon served as club president in the mid-90’s. In 1991, Preston set a new record for most goals and most points as a freshman. Preston was a member of the 1993, 1994, and 1996 conference championship teams and later played for the Knoxville Speed UHL team. After a stint as assistant coach with the Knoxville Ice Bears, Preston was promoted in 2003 to General Manager where he served until this past season. Under Preston's tenure, the Ice Bears claimed 3 SPHL President's Cups and the 2006 SPHL Championship. |
| Rick Farmer |
2004 |
Rick Farmer starred for the Ice Vols almost ten years apart, appearing on the scene in 1979 to help lead the Ice Vols to four consecutive SCHA Championship Games. During this time, Rick filled the trophy cases, earning 3 SCHA All-Star awards, and staying among the team and league leaders in scoring during his stay. Rick returned at the end of the decade and returned to form, leading UT again in scoring with 46 points in 1990. Rick made it to the pros, playing in the ECHL for both the Knoxville Cherokees and Winston-Salem Thunderbirds. |
| Dave Feather |
2003 |
The “Godfather” of modern Tennessee Hockey, it was Feather who saved the UT Hockey Club from disbandment in 1998. The time, effort, heart, and soul Dave has put into the Tennessee Hockey program is immeasurable. On the ice, Dave served as captain of the 2002 Conference Championship team, and played for Tennessee’s first two ACHA National qualifying teams. |
| Shaun Fowler |
2003 |
Playing only two seasons with the Ice Vols, Shawn made his mark on the Tennessee Record Book, setting team highs for goals (46), assists (54), and points (100) in a single season. Shawn’s 100 goals put him among the Ice Vols’ Top Ten all time leading scorers. Shawn finished 2003 as the second leading scorer in the nation with a 3.3 points per game average. Shawn also served as captain of the 2003 team which finished 7th in the nation. At the 2003 Nationals, Shawn was among the leading scorers, notching the OT goal to lift the Vols over powerhouse Penn State. Shawn was named to the 2003 All Nationals 2nd Team. |

2006 |
Shaun was one of the stalwarts of the Tennessee scoring line during the late 1980’s. Shaun’s 120 points rank him 10th on the Tennessee All-Time Scoring list. |
| Cliff Kirk |
2004 |
Cliff Kirk led the Ice Vols as Team President in the late 80's and helped spearhead the growth of the team at that time. On the ice, Cliff was a consistant perfomer, rating in the top of the team in points each year. Although Cliff never led the team in points for any season, his consistancy placed Cliff in the top 10 in All-Time points. |
| Chad Kukla |
2003 |
Chad Kukla was one of the most feared players in the SCHA in the late 90’s. Known for his bruising hits, Chad anchored the Big Orange defense during the 1996 National and SCHA Championship seasons, and the ‘97 runner-up team. |
| Larry LaBorde |
2003 |
Chicago native Larry LaBorde was one of the first Ice Vols, helping to create the foundation for the UT Hockey club even before his playing days. LaBorde’s father was one of the original builders of the first home of Tennessee Hockey, the Ice Chalet, and Larry skated and practiced with the Big Orange even before his playing days from 1976 to 1980. LaBorde went on to play junior pro hockey in Canada. Larry returned to Knoxville in the 90’s where he is now Manager of the Ice Chalet and Vice President of Chalet Ice Rinks, Inc. In 1996, Larry was named the Ice Skating Institute's Man of the Year. |
| Dan McDonald |
2005 |
One of the first Ice Vol greats, Dan McDonald was with the Tennessee program from day one. Dan scored the first goal in team history and helped the teams’ quick start as the top southern hockey power. McDonald captained the first three teams and was the leading scorer for the first team. |
| Buzz Parinello |
2003 |
Buzz Parinello rewrote the Ice Vols record book in the mid and late 80’s holding most team records well into the 2000’s. Buzz was a member of and leading scorer on the 1987 SCHA Southern Division Championship team, and finishing 9th in scoring in the ACHA that season. Buzz still resides in Knoxville and now serves as a referee with USA Hockey, refereeing youth and adult league hockey and working with minor league programs. |
| Bill Rutherford |
2003 |
Bill Rutherford played for the Ice Vols in the early days and was on the mid-seventies teams known for playing and beating Georgia Tech in Atlanta’s Omni Arena as a doubleheader with the Atlanta Flames. After spending several years coaching Knoxville area high school teams and helping build the Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association, Bill took the helm of the Tennessee Hockey Program just before the team joined the inaugural season of the Southern Collegiate Hockey Association (SCHA) in 1979. During Rutherford’s tenure, Tennessee finished as SCHA runner-up in 1980, 1981 and 1982, and finished as the 1983 SCHA regular season champions. Rutherford finished his career with a 72-29-3 record. |
| Dale Scherholz |

One of the most decorated Ice Vols ever, Dale Scherholz came to Tennessee at the turn of the century and he helped take the program to the next level. His impact was felt immediately as he earned the 2000 Rookie of the Year award. During Dale's 4 seasons with UT, he amassed 232 points. He also was a National Top 10 Scorer twice, and was a 2-time all conference selection. He was also named as the 2004 MVP, 2002 Offensive Player of the Year and was a member of the 2002 and 2003 National Championship Tournament teams. |
| Alex Skaaleruud |
2003 |
Alex has the rare distinction of being one of the few players to have played on three SCHA Championship teams; winning the title with Tennessee in 1993, 1994, and 1996. He was also Captain of the 1997 SCHA runner-up squad. |
| Guy Smith III |
2006 |
Guy was one of the founding fathers of, and first coach of the Tennessee Hockey program. Guy started the UT program after his success with the Knoxville Jr. Knights program, whose players mostly became UT students; and helped publicize the team through his connections in Knoxville media. His father, Guy Smith, Jr. was a founder of the Knoxville-News-Sentinel and a member of the Tennessee Newspaper Hall of Fame. |
| Nathan Tutt |

Nate Tutt came to Tennessee in 1998 after playing for NCAA Division One Quinnipiac. The Culver City, California native made an immediate impact, staying among the leaders in scoring at both Tennessee and in College Hockey South throughout his stay in Knoxville. |
| Kevin Vandervort |
2004 |
One of the most decorated former Ice Vols, Kevin Vandervort re-wrote the record book in the late 80's and early 90's. Leading the team in goals, assists, and points in various years while at UT, Kevin also set new standards in penalty minutes; leading the team in 3 of 4 seasons. Kevin was a 2-time team MVP and is one of the top scorers in team history with 142 points. |
