Eagles soar past Vols in third period

October 11, 2008 – Joe Williams’ second four point night in a row would prove to be a record setting one as he stormed past Preston Dixon as UT’s All-Time Leading Scorer to finish the night at number one with 217 points.  However, the monumental night was spoiled thanks to five unanswered goals in the third period by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, as they rallied to defeat the Vols 6-4.  Tennessee jumped out to an early lead thanks to Tommy Morgan’s redirect only 4:15 into the period.  Three Power Play goals later in the period would help the Vols to hold a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.  FGCU would score once in the second frame to narrow the lead to three before scoring three Power Play goals in the third to tie the game, and two more goals late in the third to complete the comeback by out-shooting the Vols 26-1 on eight Power Play opportunities.  Despite surrendering six goals BJ Keyes put in a solid performance in goal stopping 37 shots and kept the Vols alive while killing so many penalties.
