Division III Coaches Poll Has 4 SECHC Teams In Top 15

November 8, 2009 - The second coaches’ rankings of the season are out in ACHA Division III hockey and four SECHC teams made the top 15. Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia are all in the top 15 for the second straight rankings.

Tennessee is the highest ranked SECHC team, jumping one spot to a fourth place ranking in the second poll. The Ice Vols find themselves six points out of the third spot and a distant 17 points from Florida Gulf Coast at No. 2. Tennessee lost to Florida Gulf Coast 8-3 to open their season at the beginning of October.

Arkansas' impressive record has them jumping three spots to No. 6. Arkansas used two wins over No.11 Alabama at the time to help propel them into a solid standing headed into the break.

With two loses to Arkansas, Alabama dropped in the rankings. However, the Frozen Tide only lost one place, falling to No. 12. Alabama also finds themselves in a tightly contested battle for the last two spots in the top 10. The Frozen Tide currently five points out of ninth place.

Since debuting in a tie for ninth place with Arkansas, Georgia has struggled against some of the top opponents, falling to a tie for 13th place with Florida State.

Kentucky debuts at No. 2 In Division II Coaches Poll

October 31, 2009 - The University of Kentucky Cool Cats lead the way in the SECHC and the Southeast Region of Division II hockey. While the Cool Cats did not earn the top spot in the first rankings of the season, they did garner six of 15 first place votes, one behind No. 1 Miami (OH).

The high-scoring Kentucky program earned the No. 2 spot in the rankings and appear to be a major threat all season, beating some of the best competition in the country. Kentucky earned 24 points in the poll, behind Miami (20) and ahead of Ohio State (35).
