Assessment and Evaluation

The Institute for Assessment and Evaluation (IAE) is an applied research and development community providing leadership in the field of education assessment and evaluation.

Located within the Educational Psychology and Counseling Department of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee's Knoxville campus, the IAE group is dedicated to the development and implementation of effective strategies and technologies for assessing and evaluating educational organizations, instruction, and programs.

Established in 1994, IAE's success has resulted from responding to the increased need for evaluative services within diverse environments. IAE is committed to actively promoting quality assessment and evaluation practices. Working through contractual relationship, IAE provides evaluative services that are designed to meet the specific needs of our clients and from school systems, higher education, as well as public and private organizations.

IAE's Mission

To provide a nationally competitive source of interdisciplinary expertise, research, practice and instruction in innovative assessment and evaluation of students, client, personnel, and programs.

IAE's Goals

  • Provide high quality, external evaluations for projects, programs, and services sponsored by schools, higher education institutions, health and human service units, not-for-profit agencies, as well as other organizations seeking to determine merit and worth or opportunities for improvement.

  • Generate and disseminate evaluation knowledge through applied field research and associated transfer of knowledge.

  • Become a recognized source of interdisciplinary expertise, research, training, practice, and instruction regarding innovative evaluation and assessment.

  • Serve as a resource to the University of Tennessee System faculty and units seeking external grants promoting innovative instructional programs and services.
