"Haven" has been included in the Fourth & Gill neighborhood's tour
of historic homes,
held in conjunction with the Dogwood Arts Festival, in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2004.
"Haven," originally constructed in 1902, is a renovated 2200 sq. ft. Queen Anne Victorian. The house was first occuppied by James Gibson, an engineer for the Southern Railroad. Thereafter the house passed to a variety of others including, from 1903 through 1907, noted Knoxville architect M. E. Parmelee. Early in its existence the house was split into upper-story and lower-story apartments. Before 1954 the House was 819 Luttrell Street; after that year Luttrell street was re-numbered and the present 719 address was assigned to the house. By the 1970s, the upper story was used by a Knoxville heating and air conditioning company as its business offices.
Time had not been kind to the house, and by the mid-1980s the house had been condemned. Jorge Ruben and Chris Flannery renovated the structure to its present condition and sold the dwelling to Teresa Laskey in 1995. The present owners, George Hoemann and Roger Weaver, purchased the house in May 1996.
The interior renovation
signficantly altered the downstairs, opening the area for a spacious floor plan atypical of traditional
Victorian architecture. The kitchen was completely renovated in spring 2004.
