History Honors Program

The Department of History offers honors sections of Western Civilization survey courses and United States history survey courses. Some entering freshmen are invited to participate; other interested students may apply. These survey courses are open to non-majors. An honors major requires successful completion of History 307 and History 407-408 (senior thesis) with a grade of B or above. A grade of C+ or worse in any part of the freshman-sophomore honors sequence will render the student ineligible for any further honors work in history.

Altogether, the honors major consists of 33 hours, including 30 hours as outlined in the major requirements above, plus History 307. All juniors who are declared history majors with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 are invited to join the Junior-Senior Honors Program. Students interested in honors work at any level should consult with the department's honors coordinator.
