Professor Thomas Burman Receives Jaques Barzun Prize for Cultural History
Dr. Thomas E. Burman, Professor and Head of the History Department, is the 2008 recipient of the American Philosophical Society's Jacques Barzun Prize in Cultural History in recognition of his book "Reading the Qur'an in Latin Christendom, 1140-1560" (Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 2007). He will be presented the award on November 14 at the Autumn General Meeting of the Society in Philadelphia.
The American Philosophical Society is the oldest learned society in the United States, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin.
