18th- and 19th-century Germany, Modern European Intellectual and Cultural History, History of Science
In addition to teaching the second half of the Western Civilization sequence, Professor Phillips offers courses in early modern German history, modern European intellectual and cultural history, and the history of science. Her own research deals with the cultural history of the natural sciences in 18th- and 19th century German-speaking Europe. In past years, she has been a visiting fellow at the Dibner Institute for the History of Science in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Germany.
Professor Phillips serves as an graduate advisor in modern German history, modern European intellectual history, and history of science.
