Hollie Raynor, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.N.

Hollie Raynor PhotoHollie Raynor is the Director of the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory. She has training in the fields of Nutrition and Clinical Psychology. She received her Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Tennessee, her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University at Buffalo, and completed her pre-doctoral internship and her post-doctoral fellowship, both with an emphasis in Obesity Research, at Brown Medical School. Following her fellowship she was promoted to an assistant professor of research in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown Medical School and was based in the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center . She joined the Department of Nutrition at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as an assistant professor in 2007. She also has an adjunct appointment in the Psychology Department at the University of Tennessee.

Betsy Anderson, M.S., R.D., L.D.N.

Betsy Anderson PhotoBetsy Anderson is a Research Associate for the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory and is the Project Coordinator for the Healthy Habits program.  She has obtained a Bachelors degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Dayton, Ohio and a Master's degree in public health nutrition from the University of Tennessee.  Her areas of interest include obesity prevention and treatment and pediatric and adolescent nutrition.

Ashlee Schoch, B.S., B.A.

Ashlee Schoch PhotoAshlee Schoch is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory.  She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition at The University of Tennessee, where she received a Bachelors degree in nutrition.  She has worked on a variety of nutrition-related research projects.  She is currently working on her master's thesis in dietary assessment and food portion estimation.  Her interests include healthy weight promotion and chronic disease prevention through healthy lifestyle choices.

Lusi Martin, B.S.

Lusi Martin PhotoLusi Martin is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Health Eating and Activity Laboratory. She completed her Bachelors degree in Food and Nutrition at California State University, Sacramento. She is currently pursuing a dual Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition and Community Health Education. Her research interests are in self regulation and obesity intervention treatment.  She is currently working on her master's thesis in diabetes management.

Jessica Bachman, M.S., M.P.H., R.D., L.D.N.

JessJessica Bachman is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory.  She has obtained a Bachelors degree in Nutritional Sciences from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Tennessee.  She is also a Registered Dietitian.  Her areas of interest include obesity prevention and treatment, diet assessment, eating frequency, diet variety, and nutritional epidemiology. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Nutrition working with Dr.Raynor looking at eating frequency and weight loss. 

Emily Van Walleghen, Ph.D.

Emily Van WalleghenEmily Van Walleghen is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Raynor. Emily completed her Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois, Master’s degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Arizona, and doctorate in Nutrition in Sports and Chronic Disease at Virginia Tech. She previously worked in the Energy Balance Laboratory at the University of Kansas. Her areas of interest include obesity treatment and prevention, energy intake regulation, and dietary assessment.

Shannon Looney, M.P.H.

Shanoon LooneyShannon Looney is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory.  She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Delaware.  She is currently pursuing a dual Master’s degree in Nutrition and Public Health.  Shannon’s interest is using evidence-based research for the development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition programs focusing on childhood obesity.

Christen Mullane, M.S.

Christine MullaneChristen Mullane is currently a fifth year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at the University of Tennessee. She obtained her B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 2005. She has broad research interests in health psychology, especially in the study of weight and eating disorders.  She is also interested in intervention efficacy and interdisciplinary research collaboration.  In addition to assisting with dietary and weight research at the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory, Christen is currently working with Dr. Derek R. Hopko in the Psychology Department in order to examine the behavioral treatment of depression in cancer patients, and is in the process of completing her dissertation research on the relationship between eating behavior and mood.  In the coming academic year, she will be working at Children's Hospital with Dr. Nicole Swain to aid children and families with implementing weight loss strategies; she will also be working with a variety of patients through the UT Medical Center Emergency Department.


Adriana Colletta, B.S.

Adriana CollettaAdriana Coletta is a Research Assistant in the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Nutrition with a minor in Exercise Physiology. During the academic year she serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for an introductory level nutrition course offered to undergraduates. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science at The Pennsylvania State University. Her research interests are within the field of Sports Nutrition.

Miranda Huston, B.S.

Miranda Huston is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory. She is a recent graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics with a specialization in Health Promotion. She is a dual Master's student at UT, pursuing degrees in Public Health Nutrition and Community Health Education. Miranda's interests include maternal feeding practices as they relate to childhood overweight and chronic disease prevention related to obesity reduction.

Andrew Carberry, B.S.

Andrew Carberry is a graduate research assistant in the Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory. He is currently pursuing dual Master’s degrees in Nutrition and Public Health with a concentration in Health Planning and Administration. Andrew's interests include public policy, grassroots advocacy, and local agriculture.  He received his Bachelors in Neuroscience from the College of William and Mary in 2007.
