RESEARCH 1 : SYNTHESIS & PROCESSING OF STRUCTURAL ALLOYS & COMPOSITES

 

OVERVIEW

This research program involves design, synthesis and processing of advanced structural alloys and composites using casting, powder metallurgy, electrodeposition, friction stir processing as well as characterizations using electron microscopy, neutron/synchrotron diffraction, and mechanical testing. The objectives of this research program are to (i) develop metallic alloys and composites with a significantly improved and balanced properties appropriate for unique and new structural applications  and (ii) explore and establish scientific/engineering principles of processing-microstructure-performance relationship of advanced structural and functional materials.

  • Synthesis and processing: casting, powder metallurgy, electrodeposition, friction stir processing, etc.

  • Materials: metallic glasses, ultrafine-grained alloys, nanostructured alloys, etc.
