Joann Ng Hartmann: Assistant Director

Joann Ng HartmannJoann Ng Hartmann is the Assistant Director for International Student Services. Originally from Singapore, she attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an international student and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees there. Joann enjoys her interactions with the international students and her favorite time of the year is getting to meet the new internationals during orientation. She has assisted many hundreds of international students during their stay in the U.S.

George Philis: Advisor

George PhilisGeorge Philis is an Advisor at the Office of International Student Services. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the U. of South Alabama and Master's from the U. of Southern Mississippi. George is originally from Cyprus and enjoys meeting with students from all around the U.S. and abroad. He believes strongly in the mission of international education, which promotes the integration of personal, academic and cultural experiences as the best source for personal growth.

Larissa Horne: Administrative Support Assistant III

Larissa HorneLarissa is a Knoxville native and has also lived in Washington state and Connecticut for 7 years. She joined the CIE staff in 2002. Larissa assists students with their immigration paperwork and applications and also maintains all the student immigration files. She enjoys getting to meet and working with all the international students here at UT.

Elizabeth Washam: Graduate Assistant

Elizabeth WashamA Virginia native, Elizabeth enjoys all things international. While studying abroad for a semester in Dijon, France, she lived with a French family on the weekdays and went wherever her Eurail Pass would take her on the weekends. Upon returning to the U.S. and Wake Forest University, she worked with international students in colleges across North Carolina. After graduating with a B.A. in Communication and French, she decided that she missed being an “international” herself, and took up residence on the island of Corsica for three years. Elizabeth moved to Knoxville in June 2007 to obtain her Master’s in College Student Personnel. She enjoys travel, running, hiking, and hot chocolate.
