Bringing Dependents

If you have accompanying dependent(s), they will be issued their own I-20(s) and are eligible to stay here as F-2(s) as long as you maintain your status as an F-1 student.

DHS regulations only allow F-2 dependents to attend elementary, middle and high school on a full-time basis. Other F-2 dependents are only permitted to take courses that are "avocational or recreational" in nature. An F-2 can pursue a hobby or engage in a study that is on an occasional or casual basis. If you have an F-2 dependent that wishes to pursue a degree program, they must change their status to an F-1 student. F-2 dependents are not allowed, under any circumstances, to work.
