Admissions

Welcome to the University of Tennessee!

If you are a prospective student, please feel free to browse our site to learn more about the Center for International Education (CIE) and our office, International Student Services (ISS).

Note: It is important to note that neither ISS nor CIE play any role in the admissions process of international students. All graduate and undergraduate international applicants, regardless of immigration status, apply for admission through the appropriate offices. For undergraduates, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For graduate students, the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Once an offer of admission has been made by the University, CIE is then responsible for the issuance of an I-20 or DS-2019. These forms are the official documentation from the University that is used to apply for your student visa. In order to issue your I-20 or DS-2019, you must have submitted the Financial Statement Form and original bank statements or letters from your financial institution. If you have not done so, please submit these documents to:

University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Center for International Education
International Student Services
1620 Melrose Avenue
Knoxville, TN 37996-3531

If you do not have sufficient funds or we have not received your financial documents, we will notify you. Please keep in mind that on-campus student employment is not guaranteed and should not be seen as a significant means of support while at the University. Thus, with the exception of Graduate Assistantships, income generated from the regular student worker positions cannot be used as a basis of financial support on the Financial Statement Form.

If you have already been admitted to the University of Tennessee and you have questions about applying for a visa, housing, registering for classes, please see our New Students page. If you have any questions regarding your financial documents, please feel free to call us. You will be routed to the appropriate person who can assist you.
