Greetings and welcome to the web site of the Tennessee Conference of the American Association of University Professors. For more than ninety years the AAUP has been promoting and protecting the rights of faculty (and along with them, those of students), faculty participation in university governance, and sound practices in the full range of institutions of higher education. The AAUP also seeks to improve the status of tenure and non-tenure track, full-time and adjunct faculty. The role of the Tennessee Conference in promoting higher education in the state among national and state legislators and the public is all the more important, given the ongoing budget strictures that continue a crisis of a few years ago, which was preceded in turn by a decade of severe underfunding of public colleges and universities in Tennessee. We invite you to become actively involved in our activities. We hold two Conference meetings each academic year, one in the fall and another in the spring; these meetings are rotated around the state. We also publish a Conference newsletter. If you teach in higher education, you can join the AAUP and the Tennessee Conference by going to the website of the national office: www.aaup.org. National members who teach in an institution of higher education in Tennessee are members of the Tennessee Conference. If you have some difficulty with a college or university, feel free contact me or another officer of the Conference. Cordially, |
