5. Some wider community

Some people belong to a close-knit community that is in a position to make decisions for them

• Members of the Christian Science community may be treated by spiritual healers within the community and never brought to a hospital or clinic
• Members of other ethnic or religious communities may attempt to influence specific decisions about measures - for example, Jehovah's Witnesses will attempt to persuade caregivers to forego blood or blood products.

Other communities may exert less obvious influence, but may nevertheless have an effect on the decisions patient and/or families make.
