Course Description
:
This course is a sequel to Advanced Chinese I offered in Fall
1999. It provides
those who have already mastered the previous course with
an opportunity to further improve their Chinese language in
listenting, speaking, reading and writing. Written Chinese is more
emphasized in this advanced Chinese course
than the Elementary and Intermediate Chinese courses.
Course Goals
: Students will be able
- to recognize, write and use more
Chinese characters;
- to enlarge their vocabulary and understand
idiomatic expressions;
- to enhance their reading and writing ability in Chinese;
- to continue to practice their speaking and communicative skills in
Chinese language.
Requirements
:
- All students are required to attend classes and participate
actively in class conversations,
exercises and discussions.
- Write each character covered in each unit at least five times.
- Turn in all the homework and assignments as scheduled.
- Take all the quizzes and tests.
- Write one passage in Chinese after each lesson, eight in total.Their
topics and format will be further discussed in class.
- Rewrite or revise some written assignments if necessary.
- Keep a journal in Chinese for extra credits(5 points), which
together with the "Class Folder", is due at the end of the semester.
Grading
:

Attendance and participation: 20%
- Homework and other assignments: 14%
- Short passages: 10%
- Quizzes: 16%
- Final Exam: 40%
