Course Description
This course is a continuation of Elementary Chinese I offered in the fall semester. It emphasizes the development of students' pragmatic skills to use limited vocabulary and sentence structures to converse with native speakers of Mandarin Chinese, with conscious knowledge of the cultural meanings of various usages. The instructional content is arranged into a series of topic-based, manageable learning units. Its general goals are to reinforce and expand previously learned vocabulary and sentence structures, and continue to develop students' ability to understand and carry on simple conversations in Mandarin Chinese. A limited amount of supplementary readings and exercises will be provided in addition to the textbook. Basic paragraph writing skills will also be introduced.
