This week in History...
January 14, 1890: Birthday of igneous petrologist Arthur Holmes, who was one of the pioneers of radiometric age dating.

Tuesday, January 15, 2008: The MESSENGER spacecraft will make it's first fly-by encounter with the planet Mercury. This is the first spacecraft to visit Mercury since 1975.

January 20, 1809, William Maclure presented his book Observations on the Geology of the United States to the American Philosophical Society. This book was the first major publication of geologic maps of the United States.

"GeoClub," the The Earth and Planetary Sciences Student Association (EPSSA), is a loose, non-formal organization which is open to anyone (grad, undergrad, any major, etc) interested in geology or Earth Science. We sponsor and host activities such as field trips, dinners, projects. Click here for more information about specific events or projects. Our Events are mostly paid for by geoclub funds, so there are no offical dues or meetings.
