The Global War on Drugs

In this seminar we will examine the war on drugs from a global perspective. We will discuss some of the negative consequences of the war on drugs with case studies from Afghanistan, Colombia, and Mexico. Also, we will discuss drug prohibition strategies such as drug eradication programs in several countries including the United States, Ecuador, and Yemen. Further, we will examine alternative drug prohibition strategies such as decriminalization in several countries including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Australia.

This seminar is tentatively scheduled to meet during Full Session on W from 11:15 am - 12:05 pm.

Note: Please check the official timetable for the most up-to-date information about meeting times and locations and availability.

About the professor

Matthew Cooper
Research in my lab is focused on how drugs affect the brain. I have taught a class on drugs, brain, and behavior for several years. My interest in the global war on drugs stems from issues such as drug legalization that are not fully covered in traditional psychopharmacology textbooks.
