Images of Nations

For 170 years, nations of the world have promoted their governments, political agendas, traditions, culture, and art to the world through the tiny images of their postage stamps. The seminar will examine stamp images and their meanings in the context of historical events, including the rise and fall of colonial empires, revolutions, wars, and even times of peace and prosperity.

This seminar is tentatively scheduled to meet during Full Session on M from 1:25 pm - 2:15 pm.

Note: Please check the official timetable for the most up-to-date information about meeting times and locations and availability.

About the professor

Thomas Broadhead
Tom Broadhead is a geology professor, who has long been interested in the study of postage stamps and postal history. His geological research has involved the study of fossils as indicators of ancient environments, so the study of stamps as indicators of political, social, economic, and cultural values and trends in nations is a fairly logical extension of thinking.
