Entering Freshmen

Scholarships

To be considered a priority applicant for all University of Tennessee scholarships, including the Chancellor's 4-year scholarships, all entering freshman must submit both the Entering Freshman Scholarship Application and the UT Admissions Application with all supporting documentation, postmarked by no later than November 1 of the senior year of high school.

Deadlines for application submission depend on the type of scholarship for which you would like to apply. All applications received by no later than December 1 will be reviewed for all university scholarships (general, college & departmental), excluding the Chancellor's and the McClanahan Scholarships.

Grants

Grants are a form of need-based aid reserved for students with the highest financial need that do not have to be paid back. To apply for grants it is in the student’s best interest to submit the FAFSA as early as possible. The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number generated by FAFSA determines eligibility.

Loans

Students must be admitted as "degree-seeking" and must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify for student loans. You must submit the FAFSA to be considered for a student loan.

Available loans include the Federal Stafford Loan (both subsidized and unsubsidized), the Federal Perkins Loan, and the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). You may also apply for an "alternative" student loan through a private lending institution (these loans are not part of federal loan programs).
