EPA Pesticide Program Update from EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs 03/06/02 EPA OPP
************************************ IN THIS UPDATE: Notice of Receipt of Requests to Cancel and Amend to Terminate Certain Uses of CCA Wood Preservative Products Federal Register Notice ************************************* 1)Notice of Receipt of Requests to Cancel and Amend to Terminate Certain Uses of CCA Wood Preservative Products Federal Register Notice On February 22, 2002 OPP issued a notice of receipt of requests from the registrants of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) products to cancel certain products and to amend the product registrations to terminate certain uses of other CCA products. The registrants request involves most residential uses, such as wood used in play-structures, decks, picnic tables, landscaping timbers, residential fencing, patios and walkways/boardwalks. By January 2004, EPA will not allow wood products intended for residential use to be treated with CCA. These requests were submitted to EPA in February 2002. EPA intends to grant these requests at the close of the comment period for this announcement, which is March 25, 2002, unless the Agency receives substantial comments within the comment period that would merit its further review of these requests. The Federal Register notice announcing this comment period, along with additional information on EPA=s ongoing reassessment of CCA-treated wood are available at: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/citizens/1file.htm. For further information regarding the phase-out, please contact Connie Welch, OPP, Antimicrobial Division, 703-308-8218; email address: welch.connie@epa.go ************************************ EPA distributes its Pesticide Program Updates to external stakeholders and citizens who have expressed an interest in O.P. activities and decisions.
