Methyl Bromide Usage on Strawberry

    Members of Southeastern Strawberry Consortium:

In order for strawberry growers to have methyl bromide allottments available for use in 2008 and beyond, we need to re-apply for a critical use exemption for methyl bromide by the July 10, 2006 deadline. Fortunately, we only need to complete those portions of the application form where the information has changed (see attached file containing instructions and application form). We also must provide estimates of the pounds of active ingredient of methyl bromide needed by growers in 2010 and 2011.

Much of the information from last year's form can be transferred to the current application form. However, we first need to update the projected acreage of strawberries treated and pounds of methyl bromide needed to treat the projected acreage. Please review the attached files containing Table 1 for the Strawberry application and Table 1 for the Strawberry Nursery application. These tables are those submitted with last year's applications except for the additional lines for 2010 and 2011. Please let me know if these figures are accurate for your state and, if not what figures need to be changed (particularly for 2008 through 2011 which will be included in this year's applications and are highlighted in red font). Also, please circulate the tables for input by interested persons in your respective states. Because of the extremely short time we have to complete the application (less than a month), I need to have your replies AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BUT NO LATER THAN MONDAY JULY 3, 2006.

If you have difficulty downloading any of the attached files, please let me know immediately and I will fax or mail a printed copy to you.

Thanks for your continued help on this project. Because of the short time to complete the application, we will not schedule a meeting to work on the application this year. So we need for you to respond by e-mail (Steve_Toth@ncsu.edu) or telephone (919-515-8879).
