Copper Letter

Many of you have undoubtedly received this message from Ted Rogers, USDA OPMP. However, I want to make sure everyone has received this message reminding you of the upcoming March 27 deadline for comments to EPA on the Copper Risk Assessment/Red. Please forward this to interested parties in your respective states/territories. If one have already done so (maybe repeatedly), then don't worry about this message.

Thanks for all of your fine efforts regarding Copper and also the sudden rush of questions from EPA on other pesticide active ingredients in the past weeks. This is certainly a test of our network, and proves the value of what we all do as State Contacts.

Subject: Be advised that the comment closing date on the Copper Risk Assessment/Red is next Monday, March 27, 2006.

    From: "Ted Rogers" <TROGERS@ars.usda.gov>

    Greetings,

Concerning your comment getting through I received the following note and instruction from Rosanna Louie, the Chemical Review Manager at EPA please follow her instructions and do not use her email address: louie.rosanna@epa..gov, unless you have some clear indication that your comment has not gotten through.

    From Rosanna:

"I wanted to note that it takes a few days before any comments submitted through regulations.gov appear in the docket list. If groups can see their comment posted on the docket list, then they would not need to send a copy to me. Since we're starting to get a lot of comments, I want to avoid duplications that the docket staff may overlook. However, if people have already submitted their comment individually to the docket staff or under regulations.gov, but do not see their comment, then please let me know, send me a copy of the comment, and the date of the original attempt to submit the comment. With this, I can check the docket to ensure that it is added, if not already done so. Please note that the opp-docket@epa.gov address should not be used, as this will be invalid in a few weeks. Even then, I have yet to receive any notification that any comments were submitted through this email address, so please avoid using this as a means of submitting comments."

I now simply want to repeat notice of the upcoming closing date. If you have gotten your comment in just ignore this but be aware that discussions about labels, application rates and use patterns will continue after the close of the comment period. Some of this discussion will take place through this office. You may also be contacted directly by EPA.

Be advised that the comment closing date on the Copper Risk Assessment/Red is next Monday, March 27, 2006. It is important that each of you make clear and emphatic comment on the issues addressed int the Risk Assessment. For your convenience I am re-sending the following note and the comment guidance documents previously distributed.

On our last Coppers conference call on February 1, 2006 , the users group requested that Landis International, in consultation with several of the more experienced commodities groups, supply the users with strategic advice and guidance on comment. The Department agreed to distribute these documents, as they were available, to this email distribution list.

Attached to this note are two documents from Ron and his staff. The Copper RED Template Letter Memo gives specific instructions on how to make comment on the current Coppers Risk assessment. The Copper Risk Assessment Letter is a template or specimen letter which you might use to frame you own comment.

I would request that anyone currently on this list please forward this notice to anyone that you think may not be receiving these notices and should be. Also, anyone receiving this notice from someone other than me should (please) reply to me: Ted Rogers, trogers@ars.usda.gov, 202-720-3846.. Please send me your name, email address, phone number and affiliation (crop(farmer), commodity, commodity group, region, university scientist, extension specialist,
consultant or other appropriate category or categories).

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

    Best,

    Ted
