Welcome to Entomology and Plant Pathology
The Entomology and Plant Pathology Department provides
educational information concerning insect pests and plant diseases.
Our department is resposible for many insect and disease related projects.
Projects often involve educational and research opportunites for our staff
while providing Tennessean's and the Southeast region with benefical information.
Several of our department's projects include insect or disease control in field crops,
ornamentals, turfgrass or sod production, commercial fruit and nut production, home lawn
and garden, commercial pest control, structural, household, fire ants,
lawn and garden pest management assistance is provided, as well as management of honeybees and
control of diseases and mites that attack them.
Other on-going programs include, Cooperative Agricultural Pest
Survey (CAPS), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Tennessee Pest Management
Information Network (TNPMIN), Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) commonly
called pesticide certification training, Worker Protection Standard
(WPS) and Distance Diagnostics are
provided by the department. Assays of fescue samples for the fungal endophyte and of
soil samples for plant parasitic nematodes are made.
