Agua Limpia
Los Cerros de Aminilla and Barrigon are small communities in the Dajabon region of the Dominican Republic. The communities are located in the western Dominican Republic close to the Haitian border.
The communities consist of about 200 people. The villagers share one working well that does not produce enough water for both communities. Many community members have to walk far distances to fetch water, and this trip can be difficult for the older and younger family members. The community desires new wells that will be more centrally located. EWB-UTK also plans to install storage tanks to help the communities with access and storage of water.
A group of students with a professor from the Engineers Without Borders Chapter at the University of Tennessee traveled to the communities in March to assess the situation. With the information gathered in March, design plans will be formulated during the spring and fall semesters of 2006. A return trip is planned during UT’s 2006-2007 Holiday Break to implement the designs.
We need your help. We need funding to accomplish our goal. If you would like to donate to this project or our chapter please go here DONATIONS. Please be sure to indicate the amount you would like to give. THANK YOU! If you have any questions please email us at ewbut@utk.edu.
