New anthology by Dr. Marilyn Kallet

Dr. Marilyn KalletIn addition to her new children's book, JACK THE HEALING CAT (Tellico Books), Marilyn Kallet has co-edited a new mulitcultural mother/daughter anthology, THE MOVABLE NEST: A MOTHER/DAUGHTER COMPANION (Helicon Nine Editions).  Her co-editor is North Carolina Poet Laureate Kathryn Stripling Byer.   The book features poems, essays, letters, stories, about sending our grown daugheters out into the world, as well as about caring for our aging mothers, saying goodbye to them.  There\'s no empty nest in the hands of these creative authors, among them Pulitzer winner Rita Dove, Nobel Laureate Nelly Sachs, Linda Pastan, Jamaica Kincaid, and many other notables.   Writings are from both the mothers\' and the daughters\' perspectives, and include some mother/daughter pairs, with essays by Pat Mora and her daughter Libby Martinez, writings by Kathryn Stripling Byer and her daughter Cory Lynette Byer, by Joy Harjo and her daughter Rainy Ortiz.   There are also extraordinary writings on adoption within the larger narrative of mother-daughter separations and returns.

This book has been six years in the making, and it is supported by the Missouri Arts Council, the Midwest Council on the Arts, private foundations, as well as the UT Humanities Initiative and the John C. Hodges Better English Fund.
